Power Steering Leaking...fix Or Remove?
I've had to add a little bit of fluid every couple of weeks when i check the oil. Its usually at the "add" or low level line so i top it off. today it was way below that line and it whined a lot when i started it. I'm tired of having to buy atf and i'm starting to think removal might be the easiest/cheapest fix. My question is how much of difference is there while driving?
need advice from those of you who have done it. I am not too concerned with how heavy it will be when not moving but how fast i can turn while moving!
TIA

Absolutely remove it. Just makes sure to loop the line at the rack after turning the rack back anf forth a bit to get a little fluid out. I would never go back to power steering after feeling how good it feels with the P/S properly removed.

actually... that way isn't the proper way to do it. The manual rack from an FC is a direct bolt in and is better than the non-powered , power rack.
THAT way is way better than the removed and looped version.

I realize that. Either welding the quill shaft, or swapping in a amnual FC rack is the "proper" way to do it, but I meant the way that was beter than just cutting the belt. I personally like the line looped better than the manual rack, as there are few turns lock to lock.

whats the "lock to lock" travel on an FD rack VS an FC manual rack?
I dove my freinds car with the manual rack and didn't notice a difference in travel. ....and thought someone said they were the same ratio.
Just curious since i'm looking for a manual rack for my car...

To be honest, I'm not sure. I've driven them both, and I just like the FD better. Somewhere in Jim Labreck's giant thread I think I remember him stating real numbers. I don't like the FC P/S racks converted, and would swap a manual rack into an FC, but I love my FD the way it feels like it is.
