I have worked on a couple of FD's with this type of symptom. In my case I found the secondary injectors not firing, in-return you get the lost of power in or about 5krpm. Since the engine was recently rebuilt, sometimes when re-installing the harness, careful attention needs to be paid to the injector wires. If the harness was properly connected, then I have found a faulty injector drive in the ECU.

Check out the line that goes to the pressure sensor on the drivers' side firewall. See photo below. I've heard horror stories about that little line popping off causing problems.

May be 5k hesitation.

Is there a down pipe on it. I find it hard to believe somone would leave the precat on a streetport. But anything is possible. If there is one, be careful, get a boost gauge. I know you said you were gonna get some gauges. Bottom line, if you just bought this car with a warranty, you should have no worries. Take it back, let them fix it. Please let us know what you find out.

I would like to hopfully troubleshoot it out just for the fact that I will know what is going on with it, and I will learn stuff. You know? There isn't a downpipe, as the guy who sold it to me was worried about boost spikeing, and he didn't want the nice engine he worked on dieing on the stock computer. I will prob do programable ecu and the downpipe at the same time. but. . . . . .I didn't see any of the secondary injectors unplugged, and I did a bit of searching on the hoses. Nothing that I can see disconnected.
