Well. . . The fd is doing some odd things. I just got it a month ago (with a waranty thank god). It has a new motor with a street port done, and a cat back exaust. The rest is compleatly stock, includeing the lack of gagues untill later this week. I broke in the engine quite nicely by putting 2000 miles on it. (Long drives mostly to see people) After a week of owning it, the second turbo blew out so bad that it could not be rebuilt. I filled the parking garage at work with smoke. I get the car back, and now to today, about 4 days later.

I am driveing up to the fiance's place this afternoon and a vette pulls up next to me. I know I am going to prob loose as I am not perfect in the car yet, but owell. I drop it into 3rd, it goes to 4k rpm. I punch it and loose power at 5k for a second, then it is full again, and I loose it again at 6k for a second. No pings or detination that I can hear. It scared me quite badly, and I didn't drive the car over 4k except to test it out, and it was in 1st gear. I didn't get the surges that time.

I cant' see the guy who supplied me with the waranty untill friday at the earliest, so is there anything yall might think of checking off the bat? It drives perfectly fine, and doesn't seem to be eating oil. I have only seen the surging in 3rd gear, so I am at a compleate loss. Thanks for any info you guys/gals can give me.

hmm..my car did something like that one time...did the rpm's drop and the engine felt like it was just goin to idle???then if you let off and drive normal its fine???

my prob was the bolts were loose that went from the ypipe to the primary turbo...i tightened them up and it was all gravy...hope that helps..

actually, I stayed in, thinking it was just me, and then it did it again at 6. It just kinda lost power for a second, and then it was going normal again.

I think you may be hitting the fuel cut from overboosting. You mentioned guages later this week, one should be a boost guage.

I have the blitz turbo timer coming in, and there is a boost gauge integrated into it. I havn't done anything to the turbos, so I hope its not overboosting. That stuff should all be stock.

Well, as I found out you can easily overboost in an FD from just minor mods. You have to do anything DIRECTLY to the turbo.

Like you I bought a stock FD about a month ago. I put on a downpipe for reliability reasons. The loss of backpressure it caused made boost spike enough that I had to install a boost controller to bring it back down to stock.

Take is easy till you get your boost gauge. My bet is that you're hitting the overboost limiter.

Your street port might be allowing the overboost. I'm not sure, because I've never seen anyone with only a street port and catback. My car used to do the exact same thing when I only had an M2 intake.

Noticed a type in the above. The second sentence should have said: "You DON'T have to do anything directly to the turbo to cause overboosting"

Way too early over here in California still...

Thats what the car came with. I got it from a rotary shop. He did the port himself, and he put in 3mm apex seals. I didn't think the seals had anything to do with it at this point. He put on the racing beat exaust on it because he didn't like the way it rattled on his 3 rotor.

uhh, the seals are not the reason. if you had a momentary loss in power, especiall in a higher gear, and a weird noise and a feel like there was a bungee cord on your car, and it just hooked, that is fuel cut. if it is really earlier, and you didn't look until you hit about 5-6K then it could be the fabled "3K" hesitation, which essentiall is cureable through a new ecu or like upgrade, and is "supposedly" fuel pump related, as in the wiring, or so many critics say.

it could also be a faulty turbo control actuator and/or some 4500rpm turbo transition related issue.....

hope that you get it figured out....
