Please Help I Need Your Rotor Wisdom!
#1
I just bought a 94 R2 RX-7 the other week, and I am experiencing a problem.... When my car idles, the rpms bounce slightely from 5-800. It causes the engine to "sputter" and when it goes to 500 the engine slightely shakes as if it were going to stall but it never has. When I drive at any type of throttle there is absolutely no problem. Now this problem doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does happen most of the time. I have completely normal readings from my temp guage and my oil pressure. There are no leaks coming from any part of the engine at all, and there are no weird smells, or noises either. I just changed the oil the other day and it has run completely fine for over a week on the new oil. The engine has about 25,000 miles on it, and it is BONE STOCK.... (However not for long). Someone told me that it might be because of the cold weather, but I did buy the car in Boston, and it just started this a few days ago. If any rotor heads out there could share any of their infinite wisdom with me on what might be wrong please reply, I will be eternally grateful!!!!!

Dude I hope you are right about that. I mean ever since I have had the car I am really paranoid about everything. Is this a possible sign of me getting ready to hit rock bottom?!?!? I just would love to know if anyone has experienced this. I also heard of vacuum leaks causing this. I just hope it's not a sign of bad apex seals or turbos....... I just spent $75 on new iridium plugs but won't have them in for a few days, I will update as soon as they are in and if that was the problem. Any more info from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help.

First thing..... RETURN THE PLUGS!!! and get regular NGK plugs. You are wasting your hard earned money, and asking for trouble with those irridium plugs!!! Many many horror stories about the tips breaking off, and taking out an apex seal!
Throw in new plugs, and see if that hepls the idle, if not, come on back and we'll all help you out!

OK, the new iridium plugs are in(easiest intall ever, by the way!!), and it has helped the idle problem a little bit!! My engine runs sooooo much smoother too. The old plugs were covered in soot, def running extremely rich. I also had a vacuum test done, and my mechanic told me that I could not possibly ask for better results, not a single leak and great vacuum. My idle prob still isn't completely gone, it just does it a lot less frequently. I'm gonna try aftermarket plug wires, and a new coil. My mechanic told me that he thinks that if after all that, I should get my fuel mixture looked at, he believes it's running too rich regardless of the fact that it's a rotary and that's its nature. So I'm still stumped here, but slightely relieved.
