There's a way to modify the T-78 to get it to spool faster.

4-4.5k sounds like a lot of lag to contend with. is there any way to make the t-78 a hybrid with a smaller exhaust housing to spool a bit faster without killing the top end

You get boost as early as 2K. The trick is to use those things called gears.
