I use synthetic even with the OMP. It works better than any dino I've ever tried. I can actually FEEL a difference in operability.
Edit: Mobile One 10W30.
I would use Royal Purple if I could afford it, but at $7.99/qt..

wi thought that the no syn rule from mazda had to do with their lack of a long term study on how it effects emmisions. how cleanly it burns cat coating etc.. syn is def a better product if you can afford it.
sinful royal purple is more expensive by you than mobil? even at napa?

Yeah, I goto napa and shell out $7.99 a quart for that stuff. mobil One is running about 4.99/qt.
I ended up contacting Mobil One about using Synthetic in a rotary, they said there were absolutely no problems. I can't imagine any reason not to run it - it's cleaner than dino oil, so the OMP should be getting LESS clogged as I used it.. Also if it was dangerous to use with catalytic convertors, I'm sure I would've read a study somewhere about a leaking ring on a piston-pusher. I tested emissions using synth, with a DP, CB, and intakes, and it came through clean.
