Righto, out and about today, put my foot down on the motorway, which was followed by a splutter at about 5-6k rpm. Slowed down, and noticed that at lower revs, it sounded like it was misfiring. As soon as you got above 3k though, it appeared to clear and although it sounded slightly different, it was pulling ok. A few minutes later the coolant light came on, and it was topped up with coolant accordingly. However, it was still creating boost, so its not a boost leak.

On the way back, it seemed to be the same. However, increased the revs to about 4500, when all of a sudden the car just slowed down loads and bogged down. After that, it was a struggle to accelerate and it sounded completely different. It absolutely stinks of petrol under the hood now, but its still creating boost and according to a friend it was popping loads of small flames

To summarize;

Complete lack of power

Bogging down loads

Too much fuel

Still boosting.

It appears to start ok ish, but i'm at a loss as to what it is, but someone has suggested the manifold could have cracked? Could it be this, or have the tips gone to the great tip heaven in the sky?

Its an FD running a single and all the bits to go with it.

my car has acted like that before... and i really hate to tell you this... but the motor was blown when it was like that.

on my motor, one rotor was in perfect shape, so it was able to start, creat boost, idled slightly lumpy, and even smooth at high revs..... and it was popping everytime i let go of the gas cuz since one rotor was not creating compression, one rotor was running super rich.

i guess what im trying to say is... your motor is acting like a half blown motor.

ooooh... and my car acted like that with a blown map sensor so you should check that as well as a compression test

I had the same exact problem too. My rear rotor had (well still has - haven't got the money for the rebuild yet) 2 apex seals that are cracked or chipped. So 2/3 of my rear rotor had very poor compressions.

I've had the same opinion off RX7club.com and off Mazdarotaryclub.com so i'm going to be either trying to sell it on eBay with the blown engine or stripping it for parts.

Sorry about that man. Let me know if you decide to part it out though. There are some parts that I would be interested in.

As long as you are willing to pay the postage from the UK to the US that's fine by me..........
