Hi,

I don't really know how to search for this problem because of it being so unusual. last night pulling into my drive( 1/4 mile long) I had my ipod on and ear plugs in, and happen to look at my gauges like I so often do. I noticed my oil and temp light on and also my charge light. Not real sure if others were on. I thought mycar had just quit so I took my ear plugs out an it was still running. I pull under my carport and hear a waa waa waa..... Seeing the charge light diddn't make sense because I had full power lights bright.

This morning check the battery and it's good. I cranked the car and hear the same waa waa waa and click click click. I unplugged the air pump and the click went away. Plug it back up and it returns. I thought without the air pump it would still run ok.

I can't understand why my oil and temp and charge lights are on while the car is running. The idle is low like it's running on low power.

Could it be Mazda has an excellent way of detecting premature alternator failure.

Any help as always is appreciated...Scott

Typically, that is the sign of an alternator problem. I would start by having it tested.

Things I have found upon inspection. I noticed the alt a/p w/p belt loose, and did I get lucky on where the belt stopped. looking straight below the wp pulley there is a section of the ribs missing 1/2 inch wide all the way across. Any time tdhis belt could have let go and disaster. I'm thinking the belt being worn out has cause the alt and ap to not work properly. I got a new belt so I will find out soon.

yea a belt shot that bad probably started slipping, your alternator stoppped charging and the car bugged out.

hopefully all will be good with the car after the belt swap.
