New owner a Few problems

Thanks for those TYSON my laptop blew up this morning and I had lost most of my RX sites as they were saved in the favorites. So thats great.
I`ve got a whole load of new piping going on when I finally get my delivery so I will keep an eye on the oil in the pipes issue but it is very fine at the moment and very clean so hopefully I`ve got some time yet.
I don`t want to replace turbos before next year as this is my project car for my university course next year, where I`m looking into running a big single turbo from a small supercharger, High boost no lag. Its just a thought at the moment but that why I`m reluctant to replace the turbos now.

The last owner did have the boost controller wound right up but luckily due to the hole in the intercooler pipe it only read about 8psi on the boost gauge and controller so I think its been saved.
Supposedly there is a larger secondary turbo fitted but I dont know if I believe that. It was only imported to the UK in July this year from Japan and there is no history.

I have just bought an FD with 40k miles on the clock. I have taken the intercooler off so I can fit my new one and in the piping there is a thin layer of oil. You cant see it but if you run your finger in the pipe it will come out greasy altho clear, Is this going to be a problem?
Also on startup the car will smoke a bit for about 5 - 10 mins then it goes away. Likewise the oil pressure gauge (standard at the moment so I know its not very accurate) will hover around 4kg/cm (50ish psi) then at wot it will flick up and down. If I come to a stop and idle it will drop almost to 0 after about 20mins of this it will suddenly shoot up to 8kg/cm (110psi) and stay there. Is this a gague problem or a more serious one?
The car seems to run fine in general, a bit low on boost but there is a tear in the intercooler pipe and a badly set up boost controller at the moment so once I get my new parts from your side of the pond I can get that sorted, I hope.
The guage performance is normal if the electrical connection to the sending unit is not fixed.
The oil in the intercooler and piping needs to be looked at. Oil consumption should be a quart every 600 to 1000 miles depending how hard its driven.
Some smoke at cold idle is normal. It's usually condensation. If it doesn't smoke after it's warm then ok.
Run a compression test and when the spark plugs are out inspect them for oil residue. If they are dry you are probably ok.

smoke on startup will happen no matter what in these cars, the OMP injects a small amount of oil into the housings before the plugs fire to prelube the apex seals prior to starting. My car smokes for about 5 seconds on every cold start I have, but I also don't have a cat as well so.

If the turbo's had an oil leak, it would smoke ALL THE TIME. I know because I had the same signs as him and thought my turbo's went bad.

If your running the twins, they are the same size. So the supposed larger secondary turbo is a porky.
Sounds like you gauge is just faulty so an AM one should sort it out. But I'm with Shane and his comments made earlier about the oil and smoke.

OH yes if the turbos were leaking there would be lots of smoke all the time. Trust me I had it happen to me and the drivers behind me we not happy. A set of turbos from Ebay solved m problems for about $350. Any ways I don't hink he has anything to worry about. Is the layer off oil super thin or is it enought to get a few drops on your finger? A thin layer is ok to a point but I would worry about drops of oil. Remember an FD is not a maintinence free car so you better educate yourself on how to keep it running real fast.

a lil more history about the car would help also. Does it have a Main cat? Since you said it's a non-Us car, i'm assuming no pre-cat. Removing those 2 items from a show room stock one will cause a small amount of smoke sometimes. As far as a "lil" oil in the IC pipes... thats to be expected.
Try this lil trick to see if it helps. Go remove your oil filler cap and start the car up and do everything that you normally do when you get your smoke problem. If it doesn't smoke this time... you have a bad PCV valve and need to either replace it or ditch it altogether.
