I just put in a mazda reman engine from malloy mazda. the engine has around 600 miles on it now and I'm only pulling 15 psi of vac at 800 rpms. I current am running without an airpump the greddy kit and i've eliminated all my emissions since I live in hawaii (no emission law) is this normal? the only thing left is to get a compression test... anyone else have a similar situation?

15 inches of vacuum is good..... you may have a small vaccum leak somewhere
|
I don't know, 15 INhg is kinda low. You would expect 18 INhg from a fresh engine.
|
that's what i was thinking. my pervious engine was running around 15-16 lbs at that rpm level and it had a bad oil seal (the engine had around 60,000 miles on it) i won't rule out the possiblity of a vac leak but yah i was expecting a high vac from a fresh reman motor..

just for refrence, my motor pulls between 19-20 vacc and my motor has 5k on it.
|
i envy you... maybe my autometer boost gauge sucks?
mech guages are known to be off, but generally in vacc they are mostly correct. I doubt it would be 3-4 vacc off. do a compression test on the motor and see what it is, do you have a warrenty ? |
yup i have a warranty, I would assume so anyway since the motor was from malloy mazda

15inches is fine. If you want to be really sure, go to Sears, buy a compression tester, take out the shrader valve, and as one person cranks the engine you look at the gauge. You should have 3 consecutive hits at around 90/90/90. Anything below 70 isn't really good.
if the motor is brand new and only pulling 15 grams of vaccum it may be 1. not broken in enough 2. F'd up. either way I'd test it before malloy finds a reason to void the warrenty |
