I was looking at the MSD setups and I think i might get one, does anyone here know which is the best for our cars? Has anyone even used one and are they even woth it?

The MSD 6a is the time proven super ignition, used for over 20 years, from rotaries to classic street rods and race cars. Only problem is you have to buy 3 for a rx-7

Danno 10-28-2003 06:14 PM

Why 3?? i guess that would be why you never see an RX-7 with an MSD

FikseRxSeven 10-28-2003 06:47 PM

someone from the other forum uses msd 6al and he uses one to power both leading and trailing, ill check if i stll have the pm from him when i asked him about it

You need 1 for each leading and 1 for both trailing to do it properly. There are other ways, but if you are gonna spend the money you should do it right.

My setup is gonna be 2x 6al's and 1x DIS2 with 4 blaster coils, probably

Why not a single DIS-4? I think it had up to 4 seperate inputs to drive up to 4 coils, but I'd have to check my catalog. Where the hell is that thing....

93 R1 10-28-2003 07:16 PM

I *heard* that won't work with a rotary. I don't know though

FikseRxSeven 10-28-2003 07:19 PM

how bout crane hi-6...... it claims to be better than msd 6al

Re: msd

Hey, personally I dont recommend the Crane systems.. I have seen to many problems with them.. on mine.. They both run to leading and trailing.. The 6al is just a ignition amp. the DIS-2 is more of a tuning device.. it has a built in stutter box ect.. If you need a ignition amp I highly recommend the 6AL, its a great peice of equipment, installs very easily. I have stock coils still. There is no need to upgrade imo. Do some good research it pays off.. I did and I am glad cause originally I was going to buy a crane.

hey, i was looking at your cardomain site, and saw your two msd ignition amps. im just curious on why you chose each one. im lookin around to buy an ignition amp, and actually looking at crane hi-6. do you have aftermarket coils to go with those amps? im guessing that one runs the leading and the other trailing, but which one runs which, it would be a great help if you can tell me about your system.

thanks a lot

Well unless your single turbo, big power you dont need ignition.. Pettit runs stock ignition on their race car.. I was getting severe breakup in high rpms due to I had way to much power for my stock ignition.. So I have a nice smooth top end.. The car burns cleaner too.. I have a very lage street port so I have a crappy idle by nature so I wouldnt beable to tell you on that one.

what kind of benefits have you noticed since adding this unit? if anything i would probably jsut go with the 6al.... easier start up? better idle?
