Hey guys,



I have a 93 FD and have been using it for 6 months. Before i got the car, i got the compression, engine body checked and it was good. However, recently, my car has problems starting in the morning. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif I would need to step on the accelerator while cranking the engine to get it started. Once this is done....there will be no starting problems for the rest of the day.(ie. the car starts easily except for the 1st start in the morning.) It seems that there is not enough charge but i could be wrong...The battery is already 2 years old but the indicator for the battery (maintenance free) shows 'ok'.



Would really appreciate ur help and advice guys as im in a dilemma now.

Tried to jump start the car...but still wouldnt start during cold. Guess it wasnt the battery. Well...hope to hear from u guys..

pull out the plugs and check for flooding. you really shouldnt need to hit the gas pedal to get it to start.

your symptoms are kinda vauge, is the battery weak, or does the engine crank over forever before it catches?

yeah more details would be helpful. Batteries don't last long in the HOT engine bay of an rx7.



If the battery was weak and didn't crank it over fast enough to start it's possible you flooded the car. Get a strong battery, pull the EGI fuse, floor the gas pedal (injectors don't fire with it floored) and see if it starts. If not pull the plugs and see if they are drenched in fuel, if they are you will need to preform a deflooding procedure, which is best done with new plugs.

Thanks for your reply..really appreciate it. Yes i have changed the spark plugs last week...and the battery. Unfortunately, it still could not solve the problem. It is a really weird problem. The car is not flooded, and ive checked the compression and i believe its ok. Compression ratio is 7.5,7.4,7.2 kg and 7.2,7.1,7.0 kg.



The reason im saying its a weird problem is because:

1) If i were to start the car...say at 9-10 o'clock in the morning or in the afternoon when the sun is up...the car would start perfectly. (ie. 1 attempt without any problems).

2) If i were to start the car...at 7-8 o'clock in the morning when the atmosphere is cold,...then i would have problem starting. I would need to crank it a few times while stepping on the accelarator to get it to start.



My car is stock with just minor accessories such as exhaust, 2 knn air filters. The ecu is stock, as well as the turbos. Im currently running on stock boost as well (ie 0.6-0.7 bar). My FD is a 93 model with 255bhp.



I really love this car and im learning abt rotary engines as much as i can. Im really having the pleasure driving it. Although im kinda new in the rotary world, I am starting to understand why RX7s are a great car and of course, a legend in its own class. when you have this problem did you ever pull out the plugs and take a look at them? and when you say you have to step on the gas do you step on it a little bit or all the way?



You might check your TPS settings, there are some write ups on how to do that on several different message forums and outside websites.

It sound like your air flow is sensed in the morning differently. Maybe you could ensure that your mass air flow sensor is clean on the inside of the intake tubing. This would be after the intercooler but before the upper intake manifold (UIM). It could be dirtly from some "blow by" from the turbos or excress oil from your K n N filters. Have you sprayed "recharged" the filters recently?

actually the 3rd gen rx7's don't have a MAF sensor they have a MAP sensor on the firewall, and they don't get dirty they just have a vacuum hose that connects to them to meter the air. or the "Manifold absolute pressure". (MAP)
