Not familiar with the lsd unit in the 3rd gen, but my wife's old vette was making some funny noises from the rear. A diff. fluid change fixed it.
Usual symptom of a clutch-type lsd going bad is that it behaves like an open diff., i.e. one wheel spins.
Start with the fluid change. See what happens.

Have you recantly changed your diff fluid? If so did you use limited slip add?If you did not ,your clutch packs will chatter and make horrible noidses around corners.I have run into this many times with customers who do some of their own maintenence.I have used most brands of addative out there and some gear oils with addative already mixed in.They all suck!Go to your local ford dealership(they own most of mazda anyway)and get a tube of theirs. It is :hands down:the best i have ever used in all limited slip applications.Put it in with your gear oil of choice and test drive for a while. This may not be your noise though, you should go to a competent <drivetrain> machanic if I am wrong about the addative. The same guy who may tune up your engine may not be able to diag a drivetrain noise.Hope this helps.
