What is usually wrong with the engine if it has low compression?

One of your many seals is no longer doing its job.

Could be an apex seal, side seal,or a corner seal

It could also be the springs giving out under the seals.

What compression readings are you getting?

Seals.... pick one... really doesn't matter you have to tear it down and replace them all.

the typical reason is that the apex seal snaps off the triangle part
