I am looking into buying a Apexi Power FC & Hand Controller (used). Is there any specific question that I should ask or anything special I need to know about a used one? I am not sure if I want to got the used route or new.

 

make sure to find out specifically what the version number is on the box, theres one for 93-95 fd's, and there's 2 version of it, a newer/better one and the original.



there's also one's for 96-02 FD's which wont work with our cars.



just try to find someone fairly reputable and theyll have no problem taking pics of the version number and everything. if theyre not willing to meet your pic request then run away.

When it comes to ecu's, with all the updates of software etc. I would purchase new if at all possible.

The serial number should begin with FD3S4 for the newest model for series 6 FDs. There is an older version that will work, but the base maps for the newer versions are reported to be a little better. Those base maps are usually pretty good for basic bolt-ons...intake, SMIC, DP, cat-back.

I agree with the MODS... I'd prefer to go new. Deals can be had if your patient. I see them often for <$800. I managed to find a brand new PFC with a new Commander for $700 shipped.

 

Well, I got a used one.....I know I am kinda gambling here, but oh well. The Model Serial No. is: PFC FD3S4 020-3505



I really do not care about the base maps as I have a street ported engine with an intake, DP & catback exhaust (& 3mm apex seals, if the does anything to affect it) that I put in about a year and a half ago & I am going to be getting it tuned ASAP.
