The little plastic flap that covers the keyhole finally broke. Read about it before, but it finally happened to us. I was able to remove the 2 pieces. It is supposed to be one piece.

We can fashion one out some plastic any good material suggestions especially by one that has done this repair?

For those who are not familiar with the flap, it is not clear but translucent and about .5 x .25 inches small. Maybe 2mm thick

From the information on Rob Robinette's site (http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/door_lock.htm), the translucent lid of a fabric softner bottle can be used to create the plastic piece in the door lock.

Good luck and hope that this helps.

Thanks. I saw that too, but after I saw the part I thought the bottle plastic seemed too thin. maybe I'll try it.

I've lost the little plastic as well (I believe on my passenger side). I figure I might as well forget about it. I have other things to worry about on the car. If you do fix it, please tell me how easy it was to fix.

Believe me, there are more things, but this one looks easy.

This is easy to fix and you can do the drivers side while your changing out the burnt out lamp in the drivers keyhole as well. Radio shack has a three lamp pack that has a green, red, and yellow lamp that works real well as a replacement. It shouldn't cost much to get the keyhole inserts from Mazda... :newlaugh:
