hi all,

I just picked up a 94 rx 7 and a j spec 13B. The car is currently in pieces and is being put together.

This ain't my first turbo car but it's my first jap car.

Previous rides include a 01 A4 1.8t Quattro, 01 S4, 97 M3 Turbo and a 95 E320 Turbo...

Curious bout a couple of things. I have heard rumors that the american rx7s have had cooling problems cuz they got a smaller radiator than the jspec ones. Where can I get a jspec one, if I do need one?

I really dig the body kit from Initial D that Keisuke drives, wut kind is that?

Is there any type of 6 speed manual i can toss in the car for a reasonable price?

Also who makes the front hood kit that integrates the lights into the body so they don't flip up? And has anyone added HID projectors. Also is there a way to get those '00 and '01 projector driving lights to fit into a 94 bumper?

I figure most of the other things I will learn as I go...

I plan on using a stand a lone ECU such as Motec.

For wheels I figure Advan Onis

Suspension I was thinking H&R coilovers or maybe I might try Tien or something japanese

Exhaust, is kind of an experiment for me, I've only had experience with the German tuners so I guess I got to try the big guys like Blitz or HKS or Tanabe or something

I will probably go the BPU route for now since I need this car to start up and drive most of the time, thus I probably won't bother with turbo upgrades just yet.

Appreciate all the help.

Hey any you guys ever want to get together with some s4s and have some fun?

Sleek head light kits - Rotary Extreme, Run Racing, C-Westin.

Radiator - just throw in a Koyo or Fluidyne.

99 spec front winkers- I guess you could do anything money pays for, but they will fit much easyer in a 99 up front bumper.

Your way ahead of your self there man. Slow down some. You just got the car and your talking body kit this, light kit that..

First off, All the cars are the same. the radiator in the 93-95 american imported cars is the same as the Japanese domestic market ones.

Any rotary engine with a set of blazin hot turbos bolted up next to it is gonna have a cooling problem. Read around some, there are some easy modifications you can do that will greatly improve the cooling system. Running out and buy an expensive radiator is not necessarily going to make the car run cooler. If you care to know some of the little tricks hang around for a while and we may be kind enough to tell you some.

Also, after you spend some time driving a modded Fd you will see that 5th gear is almost pointless, Why in Gods name you would want a 6th gear is beyond me.

Your rx7 has alot of mods that should be done to improve the reliablity of the car. It is not a German car by any means. It is very particular.

Also please for the love of God stop showing so much interest in light and body kits, The car looks good enough already. I would spend more time learning a few basics before you start worring about astetics. That my opinion.

I must agree with Fd3 there is a ton to learn about the FD3S there are a ton of minor mod's that can be done that may just save your engine. If you havent allready heard about them just read around. There have been a few posts made that list all of the things to look for. This may be a german engine but it's like nothing youve drove before. Also if you are looking at a ECU look into a powerFC by apexI. It's one of the better ones on the market. If you are goin to stay TT. You might want to consider going non-seq. And if you want to go single get a T04E-T04S.

Well first of all, I don't want to be mistaken for a ricer. Yes the FD body is nice, I whole heartedly agree...but ever since I saw Initial D, I've always wanted my Rx-7 to resemble that. Also, since my first modded car, I've always hated having **** sit around waiting to be installed.

Since this car is in pieces, it's going to get the whole, and right treatment done the first time. I just didn't really know the brand names to trust in the Jap world so I needed some advice.

I basically won't touch the interior (since it looks brand new) but I plan on putting coilovers and bigger brakes and wheel and tire upgrades to ensure the handling.

Also since I hope to be doing some nice canyon running at nite, I am definitely definitely into running Xenons. After having Xenons in my two audis, I cannot go back.

With a MoTec don't you need to run pre-mix? (or is it the Haltec?) Good Luck and don't let Inital D interfere too much with reality.
