i am needing a motor for my 93 fd i just picked up.. it was a shell with no motor.. im wanting to go back to the rotary and stay there.. i found a few motors on ebay i wanted to pickup. however they say they are jdm.. i purhcashed a PFC and commander from ebay also.. is the wiring harness different on the jdm's over the ones my car came with? and if they are can i still use the jdm engine if i swap the harness out to a usa one?

nobody honestly knows?

I'm not sure on whether or not the wiring will have any minor differences.

Why not just buy a new/rebuilt motor from one of the rotary specialists in the country? It will probably cost a little more than what you're paying for on e-bay, but you will KNOW that all the parts are in good solid condition. Not to mention you can go ahead and have it customized from the get-go as well...

i would but i need everything.. down to the pullys to the accessorys.. and if i bought that from a rotary shop im sure ill be spending a ton more on all the smaller nick nacks.. then i still need a transmission.. if i was going to go threw all that i might as well do a ls1 swap..

however if i buy a jdm motor i get everything.. and if the motor does pop sometime soon i can then rebuild or get a reman and still be money ahead for my goals..

my concern is if i buy a jdm motor from ebay.. will i have to worry about it working in general with my american fd? or will there be certian things ill need to change and if so what?

2 days and i havent even had a reply.. no offense guys but whats up with this site if no one is wanting to help someone out? i am almost positive someone out there knows the answer to my question.. i just dont want to buy something if its not going to work at all.. im wanting to stay rotary guys.. but if i cant get answers im going to have to go ls1 cause i at least know about it!.. id just much rather stay orginal and keep my 7 rotary powered.. so common guys anyone out there wanna give me good info what im looking for??

The JDM motor does not have all the same accessories as your motor. Its missing some emissions things like EGR. I think it will plug right in but it isnt the same. If you have a stock ecu it will throw the check engine light, but I doubt there would be any problems with the PowerFC.

I wouldn't do a JDM motor, you dont know the condition or anything about it. How long did it sit outside at the junk yard? Things like that could mean a lot when it comes to longevity. I would get a rebuild instead.

its not that i dont want a rebuild i just need everything.. i dont see a problem with me buying the jdm motor from ebay that a way i have everything! then send it off to get rebuilt.. and while its gone I can clean, paint, coat the small parts.. then i get a fresh motor and i have everything i need to go ahead and drive.. so running the jdm motor will be alright with the pfc?

Sounds like it will probably work for you then. The wiring harness I am pretty sure is the same, and you wont need to cut pins to install the Power FC as the reason we have to cut pins is because the PowerFC is made for the Japanese market cars. So in a way, its better that you get the JDM engine! Make sure the harness isnt cut, I have seen plenty come with the harness chopped at the firewall and you really dont want to have to splice that mess back together.

excellent news then! I will plan on buying one and sending it off to get rebuilt by pettit! maybe get a nice port done too!! i just hope the wiring harness I get is in good shape and not cut like you mentioned.. Thanks Tom!!

do you think with all the bolt ons and a hks ignition, street ported motor still running sequential twins at arond 14psi will be able to acchieve 340hp at the wheels?? my goal is to break 330hp at the wheels on the seq twins.. cause i just have no ambition to go single nor crazy HP numbers.. just max out the stockers and hope they last a while.. if not time for a rebuild!! :-)

Thats easy, I built my motor recently (Arizona Rotary Rockets) and just put down 340 on the stock twins at only 9psi. Thats on a street port. Have some fuel pressure issues to get taken care of (think my Walbro is crapping out), but my real goal will be 400 on the stock twins next time.
