Idle Problems

when you start the car and it goes up to 3k rpm's just tap the gas and it will go down to idle. Its just one thing mazda did that is bad for the engine but it helps worm you cat up so you can pass emissions or something. And as for your car idling at 500rpm's that's not right, it should be higher

actually after the 3000k thing..... my rpm hangs at 1100-1200k. but after the car warms up, it idle's perfectly. not something im too worried about. one thing that worries me at startup though is that my car smokes like i broke my turbo.... but i guess its not my turbos since there is a hole in my crosspipe and there's no oil coming out of it

My FD does the exact same thing! i have been wondering about that for a while now. When i first start it up in the morning, it will smoke a lot of blue smoke until the car is warmed up (about 5 minutes), but then it will stop completely. I know for a fact that my turbos are good because they were recently rebuilt (about 1000-2000 miles ago) and there is no oil in the intake pipes. Does anyone know what this could be?

smoke @ cold start for a few minutes is usually an indication of oil control rings starting to go, excessive stepped wear on the side housings, or combination of both. From what I understand, once these things start getting worn oil can leak past when sitting for a while and then it burns up @ the cold start which follows causing smoke out the tail pipe.
