I have Mazda RX7 model FD year 92-93

I do not include first gear and when it is placed, the load will not stay. I want to dismantle it and see what the problem is, but I would like to know where to buy parts prevails. Should someone with this problem? will not happen again?

Sorry my English.

needs rebuild, first/second selector ring and or detent ball spring is failed. there could be a spacer issue too but since this was a known good box before i dont think so unless you have a compleat melt down some place. fluid change wont help this issue but may have been the reason why the problem has happend. going to need to tear it out and inspect. parts are avalible at the mazda dealer or just look for a new/used box online someplace, may i sugest a jdm box as the syncro for fifth/revers was stronger in the jdm boxes.

you are going to need to get dirty on this one , no way around it

5th gear is also shorter in the jdm trans. Expect a little less gas mileage but a little more acceleration in fifth

incorect 5th is the same ratio , i have swapped 4 of them now and they all where the same rpm/mph as the usdm.

I have a 97 jdm trans in my fd and the 5th gear is much shorter than when I had the Usdm. I assumed it would be the same gear ratios for all the years of fd but after doing a little research they had a couple different gearing options for different years. You wouldn't happen to know the ratios by trans would you?

If we open gerbox we search problem. I ask in service Mazda in my country on new parts. New parts cost 3000eur. I rather buy other used gearbox and I hope it will be OK.

poorguy.. the shorter 5th gear you are talking about it out of a mazda pickup truck. I'll see if i can still find the part number in my files for it.

As far as the busted tranny... i'd definitely look for a used one and then try to tinker with the busted one to see if it's fixable.
