$300 is the average price if you are going to have the engine rebuilt at the same time which is recommended since you will already have the engine out.

Rebuilds depend on the place. You can buy the entire kit at atkins for around $900 and do it yourself. Or have yours rebuilt for about 2.1k or even buy a rebuilt engine for around 3.5k.

For ports you might want to add $300 to all of the ebove prices. If you know about this stuff then you can buy a template fr a couple of bucks and do that yourself.

how hard is it to rebuild your own engine, if you buy the mazda repair manual does that make it alot easier or do you just have to do it and learn that way?

you might want to buy the Rotary Rebulid video from Atkins Rotary. Would be a good place to start.. i think its $30 and you can watch the entire rebulid process as well as use it as a guide. having the shop manual will be necessary.. but you can find that online.
