I think there's a grounding problem with my starter. Often I'll get click, click, no start. No response from the starter. Then a few seconds of trying and the car will come to life. It's a brand new performance battery so I don't think it's that.

When installing a new ground to the starter can I ground the starter anywhere on the starter or do I have to ground it to one of the prexisting terminals? If it has to be a prexisting terminal on the starter. Which one? Terminal S, B, or M.

In the FSM, I'm refering to pg G-24

http://www.rx7city.com/Manuals/93%20Manual..._ELECTRICAL.pdf

Think I'm on the right track or should I look elsewhere.? I really think it's the grounding on the starter b/c the car (not starting) isn't constant. It's an AT so it's possible that it's something with the inhibitor switch. I recently disabled the factory alarm in hopes of resolving the problem... no luck.

Any thoughts?

Through one of the terminals or somewhere else (ie the bolts holding the starter in).

I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back. Thank you for your help. I hope this fixes it once and for all!

I don't think its a grounding issue. Because if you did, then it would either spin slower or not able to spin at all. But since its intermitten problem, I would look else where. I know some FD owners experienced either clutch ign switch or ignition parts around the steering column area. Good luck, but if grounding doesn't work, I would try other two I've mentioned. Also best way to ground would be to run the wires from negative terminal.

^Agreed. But there's no harm in adding the ground wires. I'd just run three, Battery ground to Chassis; Battery to Engine and Engine to Chassis.

As for the starting issue, what you describe is exactly the problem I had once. And after checking everything else, it ended up just being a weak cell in my battery. I know you said your battery was new, but so was mine. Doesn't cost anything to have it checked.

I wasn't saying grounding is bad. I just don't think grounding is an issue. When I relocated by battery on my blk FD, I ran 2 ground distributors to make sure grounding was ok (8 x 8gauge wires and 0 gauge for the positive).

Also, he should check the battery terminal before thinking its grounding issue. Sometimes, the bad + terminal cause it to just click and sometimes starts.

Another good point. LOL, not that I've ever overlooked the obvious.
