i go over to my friends house today as he was pulling the engine out of a wrecked 2001 rz, so i got to see what the 99+ rx7 engine looks like.

mazda got smart in 99, the rats nest is gone and in its place is a big plastic thing with the solenoids. it has 1 vacuum line to feed it, and about 3-4 to run stuff, its very cool. this one also had the 280ps turbos, you can see the abradable seal in there. they also have a better abs unit, the bilstien shocks. it kinda bugs me that they fixed the fd after they stopped selling em here

Where is this at?

and where was your ****** camera Mike!!!!!

fritzfry 02-12-2003 10:11 PM

Is the 99 engine and/or 99 turbos something that many owners stateside are considering? Or is it insanely expensive? Or do they decide that if they're going to mod their car they want to go crazy with the power instead?

I'm not sure if I understood..was that a 2001 RZ..here?

Thanks for the response to my email too.

no the U.S. only got the 93-95 3rd gens.

I have the 99 spec turbos and they are not all that much better.

They do spool faster , i only have them cause I got a John Duff https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png special discount on them.

So where are you and your friend located Austrailia??

Was it bought to fix up and drive, or was this RZ just imported to the US(again where ever it is you live), for your buddy to rip apart for parts?

Will he be selling anything from this wrecked RZ??

cheers

Shawn

that stuff is already gone, the only rz stuff on it is the paint

mike

SPOautos 02-13-2003 05:03 PM

OH OH...I want the paint!!!! can you sand it down then vac it up and send it to me and I'll melt it and convert it back into paint then use it on my car!!!! That would mean I'd almost have a RZ!!!!

haha

thatsa very ODD idea....... interesting though.. and a cheaper way to get paint!!

ccarlisi 02-14-2003 10:00 AM

The solenoid info is VERY interesting. The ABS on the new cars is 32-bit as opposed to the 16-bit unit in the US cars. That coupled w the new brakes and modern tires should improve stopping distances over the US cars.

Anybody have a performance test on the 99-2002 car? I'd love to see what kind of numbers it generates in terms of handling and braking.

j9fd3s 02-14-2003 12:15 PM

the solenoids were very different, they basically made it so you cant screw up the vacuum hose job

r_xplicit 02-14-2003 12:34 PM

a day late and a doller short.....or, if you are mazda, a few years late, and many dollars short...

they just need to suck it up and bring that fucker [rx7] back in a year or two....not some N/A rx8
