Hey everyone, I just wanted some input. My 93 R1 gets easily less than 15 miles to the gallon. I get a little over 200 miles on a tank, combination of city and highway. I this normal? I warm up the car for about 5-7 minutes in the morning and at night before I start driving, and the turbo timer is set for 5 minutes. There is a small carbon stain above my tailpipe. I bought the car in Houston, and live in Colorado Springs, about 6000 ft above sea level. I have aftermarket intake (the filters are dirty), downpipe and exhaust. I am running stock boost on stock turbos, and I try not to drive it hard all the time, because of the bad gas milage. I've heard roteries are gas hogs, but does this sound right. I would like to hear some opinions on this. Thanks.

 

sounds normal to me unless altitude normally has some effect on mileage

 

thats about normal...

i would cut down the cool down minutes.... keep it at like 2 mins, i've been told by a very good source that it may cause carbon buildup

 

unless you get into boost right before you stop driving you dont really need to let your car cool down for that long. the reason the turbo timer is there is to let the turbos spool down from high rpms from boost.

 

I have my turbo timer set at 30 sec. A couple of miles before shut down, I take it real easy and then just let it count down from 30sec. I didn't buy the turbo timer either...I think they are pretty much useless if you take it easy before a shut down.

As far as gas mileage, I'd say it's normal. Mostly I'm under it but I've got a heavy foot!

 

I'd have to say your gas mileage is normal also. You could get 18-19 if you were always cruising at 55 on flat road, but with all the hills we have in Colorado, you can really suck that gas down fast. Another contributing factor may be that you tend to use more of your availble power here to move the car the same speed/acceleration rate. I get about 8-10 in my FD, running 12 lbs boost.

You might want to think about replacing your O2 sensor.

 

cut the cooldown time, the oil coolers dont work when the car is stopped, oil temp actually goes up when the car is stopped. you can also cut the warmup time, its not a carburated car.

 

Ok I guess my car is normal, its just a gas hog. I've heard a lot about letting this kind of car warm up. I'll try cutting it down. As far as the turbo timer I sometimes put it at 2:30 if I was on a short drive in town. On longer drives or after highway driving I set it for 5 minutes. I also was told to set my timer longer. This person drives some boosted old Camaro. Thanks for all the input. I'm still new to the rotery and turbo world. I bought my 7 this past June. I upgraded from a slightly modded Integra.
