My engine has been sitting next to my car for over a month now. It was a pain taking it apart but I think I found my problem. Here are pictures of the first rotorhousing....the second was obvious as to what was wrong with it!









Are the coolant seals fried? They all fell out of the grooves when I took it apart. PArts of it would stick to the housing, however when I tried to put them back in they were too big!

Other question....I bought new seals and when I test fitted then they didnt fit snugly in the grooves. Will they expand with the heat to make a nice seal?





On the E-shaft bolt their looks like their used to be some kinda gasket. Was their or is it just some sort of sealant?

I think you need to ship all your engine parts to me.. so I can thoroughly inspect them for you..

 

The outer coolant seals expand, that's why they don't fit right anymore. The gasket you see on the front oil seal bolt(or whatever it's called) is locktite, probably from the factory. You don't need to put any on when you redo your engine though.

 

Yea the o-ring expanding like that is normal.

You will be looking for a physical break in the rubber.

They do have a small seam from where the two ends are joined and that is not your spot. Usually you would expect to see it on the turbo side. I can see some wear in your center plate O-ring there though on the drivers side.

Well I can take pics but the parts have already soaked. On the other rotorhousing the Seal was fried. It was obvious!!! About a 3 inch gap! I had to peel what was left off with a screw driver....I am mostly concerned about my new seals. When I test fitted them it wouldn't fit the entire contour of the groove. They are like rubber band and was wondering if I had to stretch them in order for them to sit right...How do I get those boogers to stay put?

 

ur supposed to use Hylamar to put the engine back together... u should find and purchase the video.. it will make things much easier on you.

 

Im not a fan of the hylomar.

Make sure that you clean the grooves out very well. Scrape them with something.

Also wetsand with a block the faces of the plates to get some of the tracks out.

Yours look pretty good from the pics though.

Use vasoline on the seals, they will stay in once pressed in with vasoline.

All you need for the assembly aside from the parts is Valsoline, Marvel mystery oil and some RTV grey sealant.

Refer to the engine building forums for all the cool tips. Lots of usefull info in there.

 

Yeah well I ordered the videos about 2 weeks ago!! I still don't have them.....I dont have time to waste waiting for them!

It is perfectly normal to have to stretch the outer seals to fit. I lube them up with Vasoline and start at one point and run my index fingers around in opposite directions on top of the seal, this will stretch the seal slightly by the time your fingers meet up on the opposite side. You don't want to stretch them like you would stretch a rubber band. You also should not get Vasoline on the seals until you are ready to install them as they will expand from the contact with it.
