When you put reliability mods second to a hood mod.

I'd say give the kid a break. I haven't read any of his posts and I'm new here as well. Just bought my FD on Friday (yay) but I did about 3 weeks worth of research before I bought one - call it an impulse buy. I knew going into this that it was going to require a LOT of maintenance so I went looking for an FD with a freshly rebuilt (professionally) engine, figuring the other stuff I could take care of until I learned how to rebuild a rotary.

My background - I'm an automotive engineer and have been modding my mustang for the past 7 years. The engine blew recently and instead of rebuilding it (got tired of doing that) I decided to buy an FD instead. Like I said, call it an impulse buy. So now I've got 1 that goes fast in a straight line and another for the curvy stuff. Anyway - the point of this is that I have almost NO knowledge (in my opinion) of FDs and I don't think it's really that bad. Sure it's a steep learning curve but it can be done. Just read my post titled 'abs light on, no crank' or similar. Obviously even a guy like me can miss the little stuff if you don't know what you're looking for

I think what everyone should hope for is that whoever buys an FD can appreciate it's rareness and let them do whatever they want - all go or all show. Who's to judge? You're no more qualified than I am.

Okay, off the soap box. I don't know anything about the cosmo engine either. In any case, good luck with the purchase if you go through with it, be prepared to feel completely lost if anything goes wrong.

ok...this guy has been hanging around for a few months (if not on this forum on the other) and wastes his time looking at body kits then researching the car. Plus (on the other forum) he constantly bitched and fought with everybody. He recently asked about carb kits for a FD. It wouldnt be as bad if he would at least try to research and learn about the car before he bought one. I jumped into my FD too, but i sure as hell resarched and read every thing i could find on the cars.

Well stang I am sure your not a thugged out gansta from the hood like our young friend 4rotor.

Their is nothing we can do to stop him and personally if he can afford the car then let him.

4rotor: I have bought 2 Rx-7's and within the first 2 months on both I put in at least $1300. PArts are not cheap. I don't drive my car much, only on the weekends. Gas on rotaries suck *****. If you are able to keep all 4 wheels on the road you will only be spending your money to make it go faster. Say goodbye to your paychecks

I see. Bobby - I figured out what that middle light is, it's the defrost light ... I opened up the center trim piece and found that the defrost harness was plugged into the middle button (the dummy button). So... that would be why the defrost wasn't working on the way back from TX (where I bought the car). Hehehe... slowly but surely, I will conquer the beast.

Good luck with the 7. She's quite challenging, but more rewarding...especially when you do all the work yourself(since she likes to be worked on a lot)

Good luck with the car. I really hope you are looking into this, simply because FD's are rare. Wait, what am i saying- with every one off the road mines worth more =X

I'm 19, I began looking a year and a half ago. I went through 8 cars, I finnaly found the one I have now, and I am so glad I didnt buy the first one that looked good (eye candy). 4rotor- you dont have to prove anything to anyone on the forums, or in your area. if your doin it to impress people in your area- your doing it for the wrong reason. Its like getting married or something (not like I'd know, since I (me myself and I) paid for the car, Ive meet a few completely rotten chicks.

my car was down for a week for stuip **** (I accidently broke a gasket taking the TB and UIM to polish and it idled at ~5,000) and the chic said "We can go out if you get your car fixed." I guess the beater honda isnt good enough for her. And Ive been told im not ugly...
