I was just curious what kind of numbers does the FD put out on the skild pad and slalom and im not saying this which car is better, but if you put a Mazda Speed Protege and and FD which one in your fair honest opinion handles better? What about a S5 TII and MS protege in that same scenerio. (I know thats out of topic for this thread sorry.) Just curious. This is no vs. thread lol.

yeah me and him were just discussing this because the stock numbers on a msp are 72mph in the slalom and .88G on the skidpad and we are trying to compare to a rx-7 just out of curiousity since i know they have excelent handling characteristics but the msp has some of the best factory FWD handling numbers of all times. This did all stem from me driving a NA 86 FC with tokico illuminas in the rear and eibach springs all the way around and it just did not feel as if is handled as well as my car.

I think the MSP is more fun than my fc, although the limits are lower.

I do think that the protege has great handling, well at least the mazdaspeed one, but the FD is King. I have had 3 FC's and they handle OK from the factory, but the FD is much better.

FD: 5.5 sec. 0-60 mph

14.0 in 1/4 mile

braking:

60-0 mph: 123 ft.

80-0 mph: 222 ft.

skidpad: .94 g

slolam: 64.9 (not sure of the specs on this)

Those skidpad numbers sound right. But the slolam sounds low. lol.

They sounded a bit slow to me as well, but I don't know what the spacing was for the cones. Over the past 13 years they may have increased. Also remember that these are ROAD & TRACK figures, not MAZDA'S, and were on OEM tires and stock suspension.

To answer you original question (and it's not meant as a criticism of the MSP), IMHO, the FD would still beat it like a rented mule. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

LOL You need numbers to know if an FD will out-handle a MSP? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

I've read as high as .98 on the FD (stock JDM though I believe), and it only gets better as you mess with the suspension and go with stickier tires than stock...

basically lol. take a drive in my car and even with "only" coilovers a strut tower bar and some worn out Pilot sport tires but even this setup would murder a MSP.

But again keep in mind.... If i was going up against a MSP and the driver of it was professional.. I would get eaten. So tell your friend it's up to the better driver as well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Red Suns 05-25-2005 08:34 PM

Well ,I knew the FD was really good at the handling. Probally one of the best handling in the world, but, I just really wanted the numbers. lol

what about the S5 TII? Just curious in your opinion would that have an edge and where could I find those numbers?

- thanks
