Mine's near stock, with only the right things replaced through time.
It's been running sweet for 9 months of ownership, previous owner had zero problems besides replacing the oil pan.
Go stock, keep it that way until you can afford the risks of modifying.
If it has tons of mods and a problem, you'll have to backtrack to every mod he's done to figure it all out. If you do it yourself, you'll know what it could be sooner I suppose...

true i never looked at it that way either. Less a chance of breaking plus I'll know what went where and when I started having problems ect ect.
