What are the few ways you can tell an engine was actually replaced. The seller says that he did it at a Mazda Dealership, but is lacking the paperwork for whatever reason. The problem is that the dealership has since closed. Do they usually keep a database of that kind of information, or is there a visual cue I can look to see if the engine was replaced?

thanks

well you could open the hood and look at the thing. a mazda reman will have a blue tag on the front cover by the front pulley, also a mazda reman might have a "remanufactured by mazda" sticker on the oil pan. other hints are a painted water pump housing, red marker on the tension bolts.

Most of the methods would require taking off parts, no? I highly doubt they would let me, but worth a shot.

I called a dealership within the same city as the old dealership that is supposedly gone. They said no they couldn't. I think my next try will be Mazda USA instead of a dealership.

Anyone want to tag the area to look at from that view? Or perhaps your leet skill can just tell me off the bat.

btw it was supposedly done in 2001.

its been changed, the thermostat housing is the 96+ style. looks like you've still got the original fenders too, no big front end wrecks anyways
