I'm sorry. I got that wrong.
The diagnostic connector light displays the status of certain switches when the TEN connector is grounded, so you don't need the switch I mentioned. But I don't know that it ever displays the ECU error codes. You're just going to have to try it and find out. So do that before you go to a lot of trouble installing a light in the dash. Looking at the FSM a little more, it certainly appears that the ECU error code information should be available on the diagnostic terminal somehow (see page F-20), but it may require figuring out what's happening when the system selector switch is in position 1 and the self diagnosis checker is in position A.
