I found a car on Ebay with a street ported engine. I really like the car and it is dirt cheap. I need a car that can pass emissions where I live and the guy said that his won't, mainly because the Cat is so old. Anything I can do...even if it is just to pass that one day. Please Help!!!!

Borrow someones cat? Find the guy that can pass it for the right price.

 

You have to find out exactly why the car wont pass emmisions. If the smog pump is still there and nothing has been removed (acv,egr etc) than you can make it pass emmissions. All you need to find out is what the car is missing that would prevent it from passing. I have ALL emmissions stuff removed from my car so if you end up needing somehting let me know I can help out. Also that is a VERY low price. SOmething just doenst seem right about the car. Have you ran the vin through carfax yet? Maybe it's a theft recovery and thats why it was repainted. Seems fishy

 

if its ported its gonna have a hard time, you may actually need both cats AND the acv/airpump in tippy top shape

Also when you go to the inspection fill it up with premium and add octane booster, that helps it burn cleaner.. New plugs wouldn't hurt either..

 

the porting adds enough over lap that you might need all the tricks to get it to pass at idle
