mazda reman engine 30k miles, full exhaust, intake, manual boost controller.

pettit unlimitted ecu, 12lbs of boost

the engine blew at 4000rpm on 2nd gear (i doubt that i over boosted)and i had brand new plugs (10mins old) wires were wired correctly .

i have a feeling that my coils went bad, i have been getting a very rough idle the past couple of days, and first thought it was the plug wires, so i replaced those, car was running good for a few mins but then back to the same crappy idle, then i replaced the plugs.... the car was then running perfectly for the next 5 mins.... for the warmup... then i stepped on it to see if its back to its old pretty fast self............................................

KABOOM!!!!! the HUGEST flame came out of my tailpipe, my rear view mirror all i could see was fire(no black in the sky, couldnt even see the car behind me)
No fuel mods or boost gauge?

I don't understand..

The motor was probably weakened over time from running lean.

well i thought pettit ecu was supposed to take care of the fuel......

just took the boost gauge off cuz someone wanted to buy it, i have a new one, where its not very useful..... on the passenger seat of my car

it was probably weak..... oh well, now its dead.... and yeah..... its dead

well i have a friend who has run 12-13psi on a pettit unlimited for 7 years and hes tracked it many times with no problems.....so i wouldnt blame the computer. Any other factors besides the coils? faulty injector?

So the pettit might be tuned to 14.7, but it is a different story if you have the fuel to reach that boost safely.

yeah but its tuned for the stock fuel system, so the only reason you wouldnt have the fuel would be a faulty part (bad injector, sticking pump, etc)

I would be really worried running all the mods at almost 15psi with no fuel mods.

A fuel pump would be a minimum.
