Is it difficult to rebuilt a 3rd gen alternator?

Hey anyone here ever rebuilt a 3rd gen alternator? I need some tirck's on what parts I should replace and which I should not touch? Thanks for the bandwith, khris

wellI guess I had to be the first to do so, any how it's not that hard to rebuilt but pain the rear to to take it apart, also I it's not my alternator {I think so far} cause I found the plug that goes to the alternator {2 wire } 1 were snap so I solider it back and waiting to do the test tomorrow. and luigi I don't know if u can put a bigger alternator than the stock, I am not aware of of any aftermarket made 1 for our car?

I had my alternator rebuilt when I had the housing chromed. It only cost something like $90.

was it broken? if not, why would you rebuild it if it wasn't broken, does it help at all?

Yea when you put it back together. After soldering the new coil in. You have to push the brushes down with your finger. Then slip a paperclip in the little access hole in the back of the housing to hold them down while you reassemble the alternator. It's really pretty simple if you can use a soldering iron.

Hey guy's need some help with this problem I have with my car not charging or something else? Anyhow I had 2 altenator 1 that came out from my car saying it's not charging and another 1 I had laying around but need a pully. Here is my problem first my alternator light and coolant light and abs light and oil light came on, So i tought it's my alternator but later I found the plug {gray} that goes to the alternator 1 wire were almost gone {snap} and the other were on good but peel now if they both touch that will cause a short or blow my fuse right? Check evey fuse all is good. Now back to the 2 alternator that came out from my car I decide to take it apart and see what is wrong with it, can't anything wrong with it. So the other alternator that laying I decide to use that guy but can't because I need a pully on it so I take it apart and removed the inside like brush and coil that bolt to the rear cover and put it into the alternator that came out from the car but reusing the stator {front piece that bolt to the front cover} that came out from the car, and I did the test and I still have no charging and all the light are still on but if I unplug the gray wire all goes away? I have check the book but all voltage is correct at the l&S pins.Please help find this problem? BTW can anyone start they can unplug the gray wire and see what happen? I need to know if i have a shrot in the system which I highly doubt that cause it would blow my fuse.

Well I found my problem it turn out that the rotor core is no good my original alternator that I removed my car and also I made a mistsake calling it a stator, it's call the rotor core. Damn now I can sleep better.

I was going to suggest that the coil was no longer any good. You could get a used one from Ryan over at PFS for real cheap.
