For the last week I ahev been have an intermitant problem starting the car.

Today It left me stranded. I had to get some dude to help me push it so I could pop the clutch.

I have a new battery and the dash lights aree not coming on so I assume that the alternator is ok.

But sometimes the car will not trun over worth a ****.

Rikki sight unseen says its definitely the starter. Imleaving my car with him to fix while Im gone, but i wanted to know. Why does a starter go bad?

the starter on my dads f150 died during the winter. The motor just burned out. we even tried to bypass everything and just jump the starter and there was nothing, so we had it replaced.

they go bad from age pretty much. I had a starter go out on me in my nissan 240sx once, and it left me stranded. Ended up cracking the aluminum housing for the starter.. (ie the starter broke in half) so i put a new one in and it worked fine ever since. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

My starter went once, took it to the mechanic and he said that the brushes on the starter had worn out. Put a new one in, she was right to go.

Just check the brushes cause the starter will engage but won't turn over.

Either the coils inside short out or the brushes inside the motor part wear out, or the soleniod dies.

Usually if it clicks when you turn the key the soleniod is o.k.

Gotta get mine repaired too. I've repaired the alternator and replaced the battery recently, the starter just seems to be drawing too much current.

Even with my other car hooked up with booster cables and running, voltage on the 7 will drop from 13 to 9 while trying to start, or it won't spin up at all.

Yeah its probably shorting out internally when the load is applied to it.

Yup. 300 amp no load current draw! Another $150 bucks down the shitter. Stupid alternator last week for $180 and battery week before that $95. Dammit.

Anyone want to buy a nearly finished project car? I'm not kidding https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png
