again, while fockin with my belly pan the other day, i noticed that my upper radiator hose had a little drip/leak up at the hose joint at the upper radiator mount. now, from there, i opened the coolant filler neck, and as usual, the coolant level was towards the lower part of that housing. it usually rests around 1 inch above the bottom, or right around the lower factory screw tap. so i simply adjusted the hose, and all seemed well.....but.....



last night when i started my car b4 i left work, i noticed the coolant buzzer almost immediately. i shut the car off, and opened the coolant filler cap. there was no coolant to be seen, so, being the worried fd owner that i am, i broke out the coolant from the rear bin. now, it only took about 2 cups of coolant, or enough to fill the filler housing area.



my question is this.....did i close up some kind of vacuum opening by fixing the leak in the upper hose, and thus allowing the coolant to better spread through the coolant system, or do i have a greater problem.



I HIGHLY double that i have a coolant seal leak, but there IS always the possibility...right? buy then again, there is NO trace of coolant in the exhaust....sight nor smell......



i can not see any leaks, but am going to put another style hose in the upper location. i have never liked the joiner pieces that greddy sent with the FMIC, and want only a hose there, i think that the hose is a weakness in the system, since it has so many joints on it......





any input is greatly appreciated....

I think that may be close. Mine did the same thing when I had a pinhole in my upper hose and fixed it. All of the sudden, coolant was low. Filled it. Never had a problem since. Weird.

 

i suggest replacing your upper and lower rad hoses regardless of your fix...

its usually a good indicator for replacement if there is failure...

recommend samsco silicone hoses...

 

turn your car on and look under the hood. you might be able to see the coolant leak when it is under pressure. i was leaking coolant from the coolant line that goes into the turbo, because of a old hose

 

i could only see it leak when the car was on

 

if i remember correctly...

a solution is available to place in your coolant sytem..

thatll allow you to check for leaks via UV lighting...

 

thanks guys. but i think that justin is thinking the same thing that i was. i am almost positive that it was vacuum related and when i sealed up the upper hose, i fixxxxxed the problem.



now, can you guys tell me where to find the samsco silicone hoses?

actually its called a samco hose, and jt imports has them on his site. $250.95 they come in either red or blue. i want a set real bad but alas i have spent all of my money

 

OMFG that is outrageous. and for what, radiator hoses.......



geez...i think i'll take 2 of them.......
