this may be a dumb question but whats the coolant overflow tank do. i was ballparking vent ideas for my intake and noticed it. i always knew it was there but never thought too deep into it. im assuming it is there so cars dont spill coolant onto the road track etc but does that coolant get recycled back into the system? just surious if there was any way to remove reroute or relocate it.

The stock system is under pressure and sees running temp of anywhere from approx. 185-225F. During this flucuation in temperature, the coolant mixture contracts and expands. When line pressure is already high and theres no room in the system for it to expand further, it overflows- into the overflow tank. Then, as temperatures go down again, the system will draw back in the needed amount of coolant from the overflow. Not having it and having an open line may draw air back into your system when everything contracts.

those people will be blowing the motor due to air bubbles. moving the tank is doable though

Alot of people get a smaller one and put somewhere else, so they can run there intercooler piping though there. Or a cold air intake to the inlet of the turbine.

Don't go without, you'll have leaks in places you didn't think possible!

 

There really isn't very much volume inside the stock water filler neck. I guess it's best to just leave it.

 

do not eliminate it!! Getting an aftermarket one that is smaller and relocating it is fine though
