ok this has been going on and off for the entire course of owning my car

- first bought the car last summer, ran perfect...once in a rare occassion it would click at the starter solenoid but not turn..then turn key one more time and the starter would run>>>>>>>>>>this quickly progressed into many many clicks at the solenoid under the car before the starter would turn (turning the key many many times)

-so to fix this i just stupidly replaced the starter and solenoid! ---> same crap

-then i stupidly replaced battery and guesss what >>>PROBLEM SOLVED

-Ran an extra wire from positive terminal on fuse box down to the starter positive

-guess what started doing it again this summer....so had batt. tested turned out fine....still did it so i replaced battery and relocated my battery with new wires in perfect condition >>>Problem solved! for 2 days!....now its back to clicking again even with full charge on the batt.!

Strange thing is when car is cold cranks up but has a weird static tone to the start....when the car is hot it tends to click...completely unpredictable

HELP!! SERIOUSLY...i got stuck at a light stalled out and had to push the car to start it JUMPING DID NOT WORK IM PANICING NOW

i cleaned all the ground i could find plus added one straight from bat to block and still does it. it was suggetsed that the plastic key dongle/ignition in the column might have broken. this was confirmed by someone who had the same thing happen on his b2000 and that was the problem. i just added a push strat button...

Besides the grounds and ignition switch, one other possibility:

Check or replace the clutch safety-switch. They get worn and/or dirty.

when you replaced your battery were the posts the same size as before? Sometimes if the terminal post is just a fraction too small it won't contact properly when the terminal connection is wrenched all the way shut. A super quick fix is to grab onto the terminal wire and force it down onto the post (many posts taper a little bit). A more definite fix would be to go to your auto parts store and buy new terminal contacts (shouldn't be more than buck each) and swap them onto your wires, clean the posts up again and the inside of the new conatcts.

I had this exact same problem when I switched batteries. I just so happened that the negative post was about 2mm in diameter smaller than my stock battery and the contact was sinched all the way, it looked as if it were on properly but obviously it wasn't! I work at a ar dealership, and we come across that all too familiar click click click ALL THE TIME!!! It is almost always a dead battery, can't say we've ever had intermittent starts though, only with my FD. Hope this helps!!!

90% sure its the igition switch on the left of the steering column...pulled it out the other day and cleaned the insides with electrical cleaner and polished the gold contacts inside...seemed pretty pitted...it works alot better now but every once in a while click click...i need to find out where and how much to purchase a good condition ignition switch
