I'm not sure what caused it to do this but here is what happened. I was driving along about 50mph and I put it in neutral to cruise to a stop at a light, well instead of the revs going down to about 1k rpms, they jumped between 2k and 3k rpms and kept revvin up and down. Didn't matter if the clutch was all the way in or all the way out it would idle radically. If I put it in gear it and gave it zero throttle it would try to rev the motor. I pulled over and it kept doing it, cut the car off and back on and it still did it. Cut the car off again popped the hood and gave the throttle cable a few yanks and checked the dashpot screw, cranked it back up and it was fine. So what in the world caused it do idle like that?

the throttle cable should have some slack in it (1/4-1/2") they leave it loose to keep it from hanging the throttle open

Well it worked fine today, i'm leaning toward what you guys are saying about the throttle cable. It stopped once I gave it a yank anyways.
