If you didnt notice any o-rings then they are either still in the fittings or on the floor. I just removed all my A/C lines and i know there were o-rings for the condensor and dryer, and if I memory serves me correct ALL A/C systems require o-rings at every fitting due to such rapid expansion / contraction.

a sealant wont do any good because it dosnt seal bu the threading, its a compreddion fitting that uses the o-ring for sealing. Teflon tape and thread sealer is used for AN or pipe thread (tapered)

Get some o rings... and no j-b weld won't hold... I tried
Make sure they are the right kind and lube them w/o before putting it together... Wash the line out before you do that w/ brake cleaner.

Just think... when you get it refilled w/ R12... they actually only pay about 20 bucks a lb. but you pay around 60... talk about mark up.
