The whooshing sound of compression is it loud or soft. Because if I did not have enough compression could that be why the engine would not start?

The sound should be strong. Loud and strong... You'll know if you hear a weak one... Sounds like a grandma fart...

Yes, bad compression can make starting difficult.

RX-7 are like women when the they breakdown (get mad at you) and then they don't tell you why.

low compression comes from stuck seals(carbon deposit) or general wear on older engines but thats ussually comes on over time so

bad or no compression comes from bown seals or oil pressure failure

so sounds are good, compression gauge check is better, but sticking your head down there is the best.

take a small mirror(dental mirror) and a flash light and have a friend turn the engine will you look at all six seals. if they don't look perfect and you got a problem.

Well if the engine is gone then that is ok because I am going to Saudi Arabia for 3-31/2 months. So when I come back all that means is engine rebuild with a large street strip port.
