Where is the best place on the greddy intercooler piping to weld the greddy Type S bov flange? Ive seen everything from on the intercooler, to on the intake elbow to on the pipes. does it matter? I want to get the best sound possible.

i dont think it really matters where the valve is, so i try to put it in the easiest/cleanest spot

mine is right by the turbo because that is where judge ito likes to put it. that is good enough reason for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

the bov must be mounted exactly 5 inches away from the....just kiddin.it dont matta

From what I hear, closer to the motor is better. This way it will sense vacuum sooner and open faster. Mine is on the intercooler outlet pipe.

Thats what i have heard to, closer to TB is better for reponse.

I think its because the turbo doesn't produce vacuum. Only the motor does. If the bov is all the way by the turbo, then the vacuum will have to travel all the way through the intercooler and back to the bov.

i think putting it on the turbo side is better for the turbo, because it blows off "faster" for the turbo, and putting it on the tb side is better for driveability because you arent decompressing and recompressing the air in the piping/intercooler. in reality the difference is very slight so put it where it fits best

I've seen a type s bov used on a greddy elbow w/ the bov flange. That was on a M2 smic though...

As long as it looks purty in the engine bay..

rx7trix 01-10-2003 08:15 PM

****.... the greddy elbow is cast aluminum... I went to 4 welding shops today and no one will touch it because its cast... I guess there's something about the way that aluminum welds vs. steel or iron... they said the weld wouldn't hold.. I'll just have to mount it on one of the other pipes I guess.

Nightwolf463 01-12-2003 08:50 PM

a good welder could weld it for you but they need to preheat the metal otherwise it will crack under very little pressure, thats why most shops won't touch cast aluminum.

i went to a aluminum welding shop. i found it in the phone book. they make hand railings and stuff. i would try calling a place like that and see if they can do it. if not they can recommend someone. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif
