what are the best fluids to use for motor oil, tranny, brakes, and all other lubes for a 94? also what are the temps / weights of oil needed?

I would recommend Royal Purple, Amsoil, or some other high quality synthetic for your engine. As far as your tranny I like Redline, and for braking- I like Motul. The viscosity depends on how you plan to use your car.

I use Castrol Formula R Synthetic 10W-60. Was recommended by a friend who has used it for a while in his drag and street car, but besides not being cheap I haven't had any issues with it. Before getting rid of my oil metering I was using Castrol GTX. I think as long as you use a good quality oil and change it regularly (which is probably more important) you'll be fine. I don't have any preferences for trans and brake fluid, certainly things I need to look at.

I don't have any issues with mineral, I used to use it.

I use Castrol GTX for engine oil and a mobile 1 filter. I change it every 2000-2500 miles. The mobile 1 oil filter is probably over kill, especially when looking at the price...

For the tranny and diff I use mobile 1 syn oil. I was going to get some neo but I just keep forgetting to order some. It's just easier to buy stuff from the auto zone a few blocks away.

Brakes - valvoline syn stuff from auto zone.

I also use some kind of valvoline premix. I still have my omp but I still give it a shot of premix on each fill up.

For me the best is what's close to the house and available when I need it. Somethings I just don't like to order. I've never bothered to read the big ass write up on oil filters but to me most are probably just a **** hair off as far as filtering anyway. I also don't count every penny I spend in the part stores. If I did that I wouldn't own a RX-7.

AgentSpeed 11-17-2005 06:24 PM

The count every penny comment wasn't really directed towards you. I was just putting that out there because most people think that spending $10 on an oil filter that is changed every 2000-2500 miles is crazy.

I think most RX-7 owners are beyond crazy...

how mcuh are the oem oil filters in the states? i'm paying 7bucks CDn.. which is baout 5bucks USD for one

I use Amsoil. They sell it here at my local Super Track The oil seems to be pretty decent still when it gets changed out generally ever three months or so. My car does not get driven every day. I put Mobil One 75/90 in the trans and diff last summer and they both seem to be quiet and the heat from the trans tunnel is not to bad so I ama happy with it thus far. No other tests though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png As far as oil filters I use the K&N ones because the have handy 1" head on the top of the filter so it can be tightened with a socket. It's a little pricey though at about twelve bucks. I also premix with Maryel mystery oil or whatever two stroke oil I happen to have handy when heading to the gas station.

KingFD 11-21-2005 10:02 PM

I just use the Mazda one. Have never used any other ones.
