How does one know if the cat has gone bad? When I had my car tuned it was running a little less HP then the techs thought it should at .85 and when they uped the boost to 1.00 there was only a 6.5 increase in HP. They said it might be due to back preasure from a dead cat. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to leave the car for them to trouble shoot. I am currently running .85 but it takes forever to get there and i dont see it until third. Is that normal? Any help would be appreciated.

you have to take down the catalytic converter to check it.

the really easy way is to flip a quarter, heads your cat is shot, tails your cat is good

the main cats almost never go bad, they are bullet proof. the only 1 ive seen that was bad, the car had a misfire for a long time. it doesnt hurt to check it though, i think your problem might be elsewhere

Yeah, I can't pull it in Cali. The CARB cops would have a field day with that. What did you have in mind Mike? They checked the sequential system when they replaced the hoses and the motor is less than a year old(even though it was replaced by a dealer) and checked out fine on a compression test. I've also noticed a weird noise from the downpipe/cat area when i accelerate.

Blown turbo? not cool. im still making full boost, just not as quickly as one would expect, don't know how much of a difference that would make. as far as ignition you, mean an upgrade like HKS or MSD? because I just(1.5 months ago) put in the good plugs and wires. A friend said I should mention that since i had it tuned I'm running hella rich. we can tell by smell since I dont have an EGT or A/F meter yet(i know, i know, its the next thing on my list).
