yeah why would you ship your car all the way across the country to be worked on? its not like its that exotic

Not the car, just the motor. It was mostly a cost issue. Not that I'm going the cheap route. We all know what that leads to. I just like to get the most bang for my buck. Most places out here charge 3000+ for a basic rebuild. KDR charges about the same when you buy a Malloy motor , have it shipped to them and they port and do a few other mods. If I want to port or anything like that out here its bonus bucks on top of the base 3K. So if they were recomended (seeing as how a lot of these members are on the east coast) it sounded like a great deal. Ya know?

Yes, they are a couple blocks from where I'm moving. Great work, if you can get in and you have the cash. They did my dyno tuning. They also work a lot with the Skyline and WRX communities out here so it's really hard to get an appointment with them. Plus they are exceptionally costly.

you're forgetting the $200 shipping each way, plus its gonna be hard to smog with a port

Jack....PLEASE REVERT YOUR COLOR BACK TO WHITE. read is impossible to read and is harsh on the eyes.

alberto_mg 09-05-2003 05:13 PM

go with a local tuner. i've read many people praising pineapple's motor rebuilding work. they are near you. check the regional forums for shops in your area.

i almost went to pineapple myself b/c no one ever picks up the phone at kdr. i wound up going to a local builder/tuner and am very grateful that i did so as i always have someone who now knows the car and what issues should be addressed.

Smog is completely out of the question. I was planning on the hook-up. Won't need it till next year though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

Thanks for all the input guys. It helps to hear from people who have been there before. I think I will end up going local (at least closer). Right now I'm researching all the options that go with a rebuild. Then I'll start calling tuners and see what they can quote me at.

Does anyone know the price for ceramic seals? I can't find them anywhere.

ccarlisi 09-08-2003 09:02 AM

ianitti (sp?) seals are around 1100, depending on which style you choose. From what I understand, and this may be wrong, Kim, dave's wife, builds the motors for KD. I'm not sure what her professional qualifications are.
