I know I said I was going to sell her but I just can't bring my self to do it. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with these guys before? Or if you have heard good or bad of them?
I am probably going to go with the "buy a malloy engine deal", ship it to them, and have them rebuild with a street port and other "reliability" mods. That with a new fuel pump, 1300 secondaries and a greddy front mount should have me sitting rather nicely. What do you think? |
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE CAR 100% STOCK, GO TO KDR
IF YOU WANT TO MOD YOUR CAR DO NOT GO THERE!!! |

I have never had work done by him, but I can tell you about the experiences people I personally know. This is about 4 years worth of knowledge I have obtained. People who go there to have regular work done, or mild mods have had no problem. People who get street ports and/or single turbo upgrades have all had serious issues, as in motors popping after a very short time.
I see you are from Cali. I don't know any of the shops there, But I would look into Pineapple racing in Washington state. I have heard nothing but great things about them, and they are alot closer to you. |
yeah why would you ship your car all the way across the country to be worked on? its not like its that exotic

he dyno tuned my car with the mods listed below pretty well i thought. hes a great guy and has a good amount of experience with rx7's. so from someone who frequents his shop, he is a great guy amazing diagnosing rx7 problems and fixing em, and good with mods as well (check out his shop if he isnt insatlling at least 2 single turbos and tuning at least one haltec u cought him on a slow day)

mike you're forgetting the $200 shipping each way, plus its gonna be hard to smog with a port mike |
Jack....PLEASE REVERT YOUR COLOR BACK TO WHITE. read is impossible to read and is harsh on the eyes.

go with a local tuner. i've read many people praising pineapple's motor rebuilding work. they are near you. check the regional forums for shops in your area.
i almost went to pineapple myself b/c no one ever picks up the phone at kdr. i wound up going to a local builder/tuner and am very grateful that i did so as i always have someone who now knows the car and what issues should be addressed. |

Thanks for all the input guys. It helps to hear from people who have been there before. I think I will end up going local (at least closer). Right now I'm researching all the options that go with a rebuild. Then I'll start calling tuners and see what they can quote me at.
Does anyone know the price for ceramic seals? I can't find them anywhere. |
ianitti (sp?) seals are around 1100, depending on which style you choose. From what I understand, and this may be wrong, Kim, dave's wife, builds the motors for KD. I'm not sure what her professional qualifications are.
