i'm buying an FD (again ) within the next week. i wanted to put an apexi intake and a stainless steel downpipe right away. my cat and exhaust will still be stock (for now). i was wondering if i'll still be running safe from detonation with these two mods. i know 3 mods would be pushing my luck and i'd have to get an ecu upgrade for sure.

but anyways,

apexi intake + ss downpipe + STOCK cat + STOCK exhaust = safe ?

thanks,

chim

Yup plenty safe. May I ask what happened to the first FD? Good luck! And you can get the exhaust and still be safe.

ummm i had a 94 montego blue with 56,XXX original miles PEP options. bought it for $7200. the seller was only asking for $6000 too but there was another guy there i had to outbid so i did. i found out later on that the car had some problems... when i bought it the seller said there was only an airbox problem and i guess he wasn't very good with mechanics but anyways... later on i found out it had some other problems...

but yeah, i sold it for $15,000 :smirk: cause i wanted to buy an s2000 but now i'm back to where i started buying another FD

You would be perfectly safe with only a downpipe and an intake.

You could probabley even get away with a catback.

I got away with alot more for nearly six months.

catback exhaust wouldn't be pushing my luck ?

i don't wanna detonate lol

also, would all this be safe running on the stock AST ? i'm not sure i wanna go aluminum AST cause i read some stuff about the possiblity that it could explode (when you you take off the cap or something like that)

2 mods = safe, 3 = detonation.

What about Downpipe and Cat Back with the stock Intake. Would that be safe to run without detonation?

The stock ecu's tuned pig rich so you should be safe even with 3 mods. As far as the AST...get the damn aluminum one. They explode if you open then when they're HOT. The stock one's crack...
