Hi ppl,

My car has not being giving proper boost for a while now... In first and second gear the problem was major the rest of the gears were better.... But recently i installed a new greddy smic and the problem remained the same until three days back when i was driving back home from a race... my car was boosting fine in third gear at 10 psi when suddenly i heard a swoosh sound like the boost had vented from somewhere and then no boost.... I slowed the car down and then floored it again and now it boosted to 7 psi only... boost was around 10 psi before 4500 rpms but after that it would either drop to 5 psi or less... and at times even before 4500 rpms it did not build up to 10 psi...So i pulled over opened the hood to see what had happened and everything seemed fine... I took the car to the mechanic he told me that there was something wrong with my turbo actuators and that they were stuck or something.... he did something under the car and told me that he had freed the actuators so i went for a test run but now it boosted only to around 2 psi below and above 4500 rpms.... so i went back and he did something and my car is now at the same position as before i had gone to him... Now he is saying that my secondary turbo is a gonner... he is changing it in the morning....

AM I BEING RIPPED????

Need help

What cud the problem be???

Thanks

Do you have an Efini Y pipe or the stock pipe with the rubber coupler?..

Well it may be just a sticky charge control valve or a broken charge control actuator.

Im not sure cause Im no pro, but i would certainly look there and the hose that fits between the y pipe and the charge relief vavle to see if you can find a leak or whatnot.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a huge rip in the lower intercooler hose. The problem was the rip was only noticable when you squeezed the hose(hard) or under boost. There is a great trouble shooting guide for the stock twins somewhere on the net . If I can find it I'll post it or you can just search for it. Trust me it's worth the time.

I agree, simply checking the hoses could save you alot of cash.

Let him put the new turbo on. When that doesn't fix the problem, don't pay him.

It sounds more like what the guys are saying. The loud air flow noise under the hood is likely a major boost leak. It actually sounds like you have several boost control problems, which might be anything from sticking actuators, faulty solenoids to the charge relief valve sticking open. The turbo itself is unlikely to be the problem.

Thanks guys... I am goin got the mechanic now... I got a call from him saying that my secoandary turbo was in very bad condition (which i doubt).. My car is a 1997 model so it has the efini y pipe.....and because of the new intercooler all pipes coming to and going from the intercooler are metal....

Thanks

Will give u guys the update cuz the mechanic says i'll feel hell of a difference in my car after the new turbo is installed...

I had a remotely similar problem with whooshing noises. Here's my differences. Turbos worked perfect...boost guage said so. Turbos were making plenty of boost, right out the HUGE hole in the lower intercooler hose. I think I might have this mistaken for another problem but now im confused because the car hasnt had ANY engine work but once the secondary turbo kicked in, the boost would mysteriously bypass the gash and make its way to the engine. Is this guy a rotary specialist, or at least a mazda dealer because it seems retarded that he would tell you your secondary turbo is crap if youre having primary turbo boost issues? When in doubt or if first estimate is too much, get another one.
