well uh i guess my first post didnt get through so ill make this one ... My car for some reason has decided to start idling low ( like 500-600 rpm) and give me little mini backfires , the vaccum at idle is like 14 lbs. now when i hit my lights the idle goes up to like 900 and the vacc jumps up a lb or 2. then if i turn my wheel back and forth, the idle jumps up to like 1200 and the vacc to like 17 or so. now i just installed a fresh ground on the UIM and all the others seem good so , i cant figure out wtf is wrong now . anyone have any thoughts on this ? btw ill be buying a PFC in a few weeks also , that might help me out.

buyin pfc sounds like a bandaid fix joe...

have you checked your battery.. alternator.. regulator..

aka charging system..

nopistons94 06-07-2004 06:17 PM

battery is 13.8 at idle, alt i havent checked nor regulator. what was funny is , i hit off my negative by accident and the car didnt even make one change when that happened .... hmm

when you turn your headlights on does your idel lower? or when you turn your turn signals on does your battery guage jump up and down ? if so it sounds like you have a bad ground or need new alternator!

nopistons94 06-07-2004 06:30 PM

no man i dont have a battery guage :( but the idle raises when i turn on the headlights or when i turn my wheel .. like the car runs better with the damn headlights on lol. know how i can check if my alt is dead or not before i buy a new one ??

try adjusting the screw on the throttle body.

also, you might wanna replace your plugs, you told me that your engine flooded, and maybe your plugs are fouled

IWINULUZ 06-07-2004 07:41 PM

its easy just take your alternator off take it to a autozone or whatever and have them check it auto parts stores can check batteries starters, and alternators

well it seems it does idle at 750 but when i rev the engine, as soon as i let off .. instead of going down to the right idle or a little higher the engine goes to almost a stall, then pops back up to 750 after a few seconds, martin says its plugs probley, anyone else ?

Martin an idle screw adjustment isn't going to fix his problem. His idle seems to be effected by the electronics. I also dont see how fouled plugs has anything to do with the electrical surges you are experiencing in the idle. I personally would check all my ground wires, there are more than the one i mentioned in my pm. Have the alternator tested. Check all connections off the alternator as well. The fouled plugs would suggest that you are getting to much fuel but not sure why.
