So would it be a good idea, if I did want to put on a additional oil cooler like an earls 25 row, I could do it with a old stock pressure and temp reg off a touring?



Could I tap the stock reg and plug it into the earls cooler, and just run lines over to the drivers side cooler and back to the engine?



Any ideas if this is possible

With say a stock replacement right front oilcooler/R1or R2 right side cooler?



I havent seen any that go for less than around $400 for a shabby used one.



This way i think i could have a brand new cooler that is bigger and better than the stock to complement the system with the added stock reg to keep it from bursting as many have said they would if put into the fd without a pressure reg/temp reg.



Do you think that this would be a good idea to use the stock reg or should I just get a oil pressure reg that is adjustable?

The stock oil cooler cross-over lines and oil cooler core are ridiculous from Mazda, even with the Mazda Motorsports discount.



Are you planning to run an extra oil cooler in between the stock cooler core and engine? For example...



Hot Oil from Engine--->Stock Oil Cooler--->Earl's Cooler--->Cool Oil to Engine



Wonder if you could run the extra cooler as just mentioned, mount it on the passenger side where the stock R model oil coolers are and use flexible line to route to and from the second oil cooler.



I'd like to see how this pans out.

The oil pressure regulator is attached to the block inside the oil pan. The picture you are showing is just a thermostat. As far as blowing up an oil cooler, I have run a Setrab 25 row oil cooler for sometime now with no thermostat(just takes a little longer to warm the car up). I run about 150psi of oil pressure no probs. With the single 25 row oil cooler I am seeing 90 C temps with no fan, about 5-10 degrees C less than with the stock dual oil coolers. I put a fan that comes on with the radiator fans, and the temps sit about 5-10 C lower than my water temps at all times. Recently I put twin TO4S's on my car, and the water and oil temps sit about the same as each other, and they go up to fast for my liking, so I am changing to a 34 row Setrab oil cooler.



The Setrab oil cooler holds about the same amount of oil as the 2 stock oil coolers put together. Here's a good link to Setrab oil coolers.
