Just found a 95 silver R2 with 67K. Original owner, original engine, just put HKS blow off valve and everything are stock. What kind of price would you guys think is fair? Besides that, what is the life span for the engine that already has 67K miles?
|
Seems kind of a lot especially with the engine being "high miles".
|
What is the price range I should be looking for with this RX-7
|
i'd say a few thousand less and its a good deal. what is the blue book ?
|
Yea the engine most likey will need coolant seals soon. Get him down to 16 and your looking good.
|
haha I consider high miles in the 6 digits...
my 2.3 has high mileage! 130,xxx... still going strong! But yeah get him down to 15-16 and it will be looking better! |
Thanks for everybody opinions.
Besides the coolant seal, what other things I need to take attention soon for a 67K miles RX7. Any sight to find out any potential problems? By the way, how to do a compression test and what compression should I be looking at to determine the engine is still in good shape. I am sure the owner doesn't want to spend money to maintain the car so he is trying to sell it before major problems appear. BC |
Well actually since that is one of the rarest RX7's made (maybe THE rarest made) I'd say its worth every penny. The only prob is if your going to drive it everyday the motor prob isnt going to last past 80K, maybe it will if you keep it pretty much stock like it is.
I know a guy here with 120K on the original motor....thats the most I've ever heard of but I think its its finally died just the other day. If its in mint shape its worth more than that!!!! STEPHEN |
goto
http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/ theres a buing guide here and it tells you how to do the boost pattern test |
Do all you RX-7 owner think the 3rd Gen price will depericate a lot when the RX-8 comes out.

i dont believe theres is anything that will differentiate a silver r2 from one that has been modified to an r2... as rare as silver r2s are...it would be hard pressed to prove it is indeed an r2... only possible way it can be proven is IF mazda actually coded the serial number (last 6 digis of your vin) to reflect model..... so if your gig is rarity...silver r2 is not the way to go... |
Yes, it would show up in the VIN and if its really a silver R2 its VERY VERY rare.
Anyone have the link that shows how many of eacy 3rd gen model were produced? To be honest I think there are only like 50 silver R2's in 95 I'll try to find it for you and let you know exactly how many were produced STEPHEN |
Oh yea, did I mention the 95 silver R2 was rare???? Let me rephrase that....its super rare........
As in only 16 of them were imported into the US....according to the production run numbers STEPHEN |
So how can I find out if it is a silver R2?
How rare and what so speical about a R2 that the owner want to jack up the price when selling it. What features differetiate the R2 from the touring or base model. As far as I know, R2 has stiffer suspension, front and rear spoiler and that's all about it right? BC |
Compression test..Get a compression tester with the attachment for the spark plug hole. Some one can correct me if I'm wrong but when the piece is threaded in turn the car over but don't start it . You should be getting three readings. If they are all consistant then youshould be good. But if you are getting something like 7-5-9 that would be bad. Low compression but consistant can be ok like 8-8-8 but idealy you want to get a solid 10psi 10-10-10.
I would check the turbos for oil leakage the rear mail seal for oil leakage as well.Drive the car and see if the clutch slips. Take a cheap autometer boost guage with you and some vacum hose and plug it up on one of the little capped nipples on the manifold and rev up the engine to see what kind of boost your getting. Make sure the vacum is correct. 30lpds I think? (I really never paid much attention to the vacum to know for certain.) Correct me if I am wrong I said! Ha If you are not getting 10psi on the boost guage then you should hear a hissing because it most likely will have a vacum leak in the mess of hoses under the manifold. Listen to the airpump for loud crappy running noises. If it's out or on it's last legs then most likley the precat and main cat will be clogged. Thats a good start anyway. |

Also, it's not in PSI...that's in KG/CM2...because if your engine is getting 10 psi of COMPRESSION....you've got a BLOWN MOTOR!...I believe that 6 + kg/cm2(which is 84 psi) is considered a "healthy" engine. |
Just went to check out the Silver R2 last night. The car looks tight. However one problem is the owner changed a white guage and he told me when the guy change it, the odometer reset to zero again. So the odometer is showing 6600 miles only. He told me the car has 67K mile but I doubt it. Also the owner doesn't know much about his car. He told me he did the oil change at the Mazda Dealer. He didn't even clean up the interior when he was showing me the car. I think the owner isn't treating his car that well and I don't think it worth $18K after I have seen and met the owner.
I don't think you can accidentially reset the odometer when you put white face guage on it. I think he did that intentionally. Anyway I will still keep looking for a FD By the way, does anyone selling one in S. Cali? I am looking for a CYM or VR with R1 package. Thanks for everybody commons. BC |

I wouldn't buy it if they messed with the Odometer man! you'll never know the true mileage of your car or engine! that's probably why it was pretty cheap for being such a rare car cause a 95TT R2(only 500 imported, and it was the last year they came here) are really rare and there value is around 20k. Just look at autotrader.com to find more 3rd gens! And please do that compression test!!!

Thanks for everybody commons

I will remeber to think about what I am saying before giving advice. Hey I think I got the point across though.:POON: |

Yhea but only the 93 R1 Strut tower brace was adjustable. Not that it means anything just an interesting piece of trivia. I would rather blow my 18,000 wad on a modded FD with a new motor and a bunch of goodies. I got a CYM that I've had since 96. Yhea it's rare and all that but I'm more concered about Rims, Big Brakes, Single turbo, Etc... The color / year dosnt make the car go around the corner any faster or help it to kick the crude out of a MKIV. I guess it depends on what you want the car for. I use to be about bling bling now I want to eat some 911 but. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif |
